Contracts Lead - Materials, Manufacturing and CAPEX

The Opportunity
This role sits within the Materials Manufacturing and Capex (MMC) Delivery group and is part of the MMC Leadership Team. MMC Delivery covers the core procurement activities from category management, strategic and operational sourcing, supplier management, contracting, content strategy definition, and execution.It comprises categories of the same value chain or having commonality e.g. Research and Lab Materials, CAPEX / Engineering, Direct Materials, External Manufacturing and Logistics. The communities are key enablers of strong category expertise while allowing flexibility in the procurement delivery response to the evolving needs of our customers.
As a Contracts Lead in MMC, you will bring significant contract drafting and negotiation skills, and deep understanding of applicable laws, policies and regulations, to the procurement contract management and advisory capability area. Using your specialized knowledge and in-depth expertise in contract management and procurement overall, you will help to ensure contracting that best manages business, legal and compliance risks, while driving pragmatic solutions to help internal stakeholders avoid unnecessary or burdensome processes and delays.
You will drive collaboration with procurement, legal and business stakeholders, supporting their contracting needs by creating and providing tools, templates, playbooks, advice and counsel, and assistance with complex drafting and negotiating, enabling efficient and compliant contracting.
In addition, you will work actively with the Contract Capability Lead to ensure contracts, tools, templates, playbooks, and positions are in line with legal requirements, Roche policies, and company needs as well as suggest enhancements and update.
You will lead and manage a procurement contracting team, managing resource assignment and talent development to optimize overall resource utilization for your Delivery team while ensuring alignment with the overall Capability approach and priorities as well as team member competencies and development needs.As a part of the MMC Leadership team you will also support GP strategy implementation within your area and across the Chapter where needed. You will ensure compliance to GP policies, standards and practices.
You will work closely with other team members, as a peer coach, project or workstream lead and/or as a team lead to develop solutions to highly complex problems and challenges, embed best practices such as enhancement and development of services, tools, templates, playbooks, processes, as well as implement simplified reporting requirements and service excellence.
As the Contracts Lead in MMC utilising independent judgement, you will play a variety of roles according to your experience, knowledge, and general business requirements, including but not limited to these core responsibilities:
- You are a contracting domain knowledge and subject matter expert in MMC providing specialist input, advice, assistance, and in-depth know-how with contract drafting and negotiating activities.
- You are a contract drafter and negotiator - using functional, technical and/or operational expertise to draft highly complex contractual provisions
- You support development and implementation of contracts "Best Practice", and act as a visionary and driver for the development, improvement, and delivery of templates, playbooks, and training to procurement, the business, and other stakeholders
- You possess a JD or other advanced legal degree or equivalent experience
- You have 12+ years of related business experience or 7+ years with JD or other advanced legal degree, PhD, or Masters.
- You have experience as a people leader preferably in a matrix organisation.
- You possess strong technical skills including Legal and Compliance subject matter expertise with significant delegation of authority
- You have experience in identifying and implementing processes that drive efficiency, automation and area impacts as a leader
- The ability to communicate difficult or complex concepts/ideas to others and effectively influence senior stakeholders and leadership to adopt a different point of view, approach, or endorse/use proposal/solution.
- You have an understanding of core procurement concepts, organization and issues, and the ability to apply contracting solutions to meet procurement needs
- You are passionate about Procurement and are able to bridge the gap between legal, compliance, business and commercial needs and support teams in operating in this space
- You demonstrate curiosity, active listening and a willingness to experiment and test new ideas when appropriate, with the focus very much on continuous learning and improvement.
- You are open-minded and inclusive, generously sharing ideas and knowledge, while being receptive to ideas and feedback from others.
- You are fluent in English to a Business level.
