  • Interpretability and explainability of AI models in clinical settings
  • Fairness and bias mitigation in pediatric AI applications
  • Multimodal data integration and prediction, including clinical, medical imaging, and sensor data (e.g. ECGs)

The PhD candidate will have the opportunity to conduct both methodological and applied research, contribute to publications and conference presentations, and participate in interdisciplinary activities within the BRCCH and the University of Basel.

Your profile
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Biomedical Engineering, Statistics, or a related field
  • Strong background in AI/ML methods
  • Programming experience in Python and relevant frameworks (e.g. pytorch, weights&biases, high-performance cluster)
  • Interest in clinical and biomedical applications of AI
  • Strong motivation, curiosity, and collaborative spirit
  • Fluency in English
We offer you
  • A research environment at the forefront of AI in healthcare, embedded in a world-class pediatric research center
  • A chance to be part of the newly established Analytics and Informatics for Child Health (AICH) group - a dynamic and collaborative team driven by curiosity, impact, and openness
  • Close collaboration with pediatric clinicians and access to unique multimodal datasets
  • Opportunities for professional development, conference travel, and training
  • A fully funded PhD position for up to 4 years in line with employment conditions of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF)
  • A dynamic and interdisciplinary setting in Basel, one of Europe’s leading life sciences hubs
