RiSM internship in Pharmaceutical R&D for Students in Chemical/Process Engineering, Chemistry and Food Science (Basel, 9-12 months)

The Position
As part of the global technical development organization, we are responsible for the research and development of the drug substance solid state as well as oral dosage forms, at the Roche Basel site. The Particle Design group is the center of excellence for the design of drug substance particles with tailor-made solid-state properties to facilitate downstream processing to the drug product.This includes the development and optimization of the processes on laboratory scale, as well as scale-up of the corresponding manufacturing processes in close collaboration with the production sites. Our responsibilities also include the evaluation and implementation of new strategies to obtain particles with the desired properties.
The Opportunity:
You will support Pharmaceutical R & D (Research and Development) in the area of crystallization. Specifically, the internship will focus on the scale up of drying operations with regard to the mechanical stability of the drug substance. The following tasks are foreseen:
- Review of the relevant literature applicable to the project
- Training in relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and equipment
- Experimental work on lab equipment and test of different scale up principles
- Establish a protocol for crystal breakage assessment
- Regular discussions of project progress with supervisors and planning of next steps
- Writing of a final report
Who you are:
You are a student (or you graduated within 12 months prior to the start date) preferably in the subject of Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Chemistry, Material or Food Science and have an interest in the development of scale up models. Furthermore, you are interested in using and sharing your knowledge as part of your Internship in a modern working environment. Your further profile for this position:
- Reliable and accurate working style in a non-GMP environment
- Team-oriented and decision-making personality
- Self-sufficient, problem solving-oriented work habits
- Good knowledge of MS-Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Proficient in English, German is a plus
This internship opportunity is one of a number of positions we offer in the department per semester and is not suitable for writing a Bachelor/Master/Diploma thesis.
The interviews will take place on an interview day with all considered candidates and the whole department.
