Are you passionate about Full-Stack Web Development? Do you like working with state-of-the-art software technologies in a containerised software environment? Join the Tools Team within the Converter Controls Software (CCS) Section at CERN!

The SY-EPC-CCS Section within the Electrical Power Converters (SY-EPC) Group is responsible for the development and operation of software used to control power converters that drive current in the magnets of CERN's accelerators. In total, the group is responsible for more than 5000 power converters.

As part of the Tools Team at SY-EPC-CCS, you'll become responsible for a set of crucial expert web tools.

As part of your responsibilities, you will be:

  • Working on front-ends in JavaScript (Vue3.js);
  • Working on back-ends in Python (FastAPI);
  • Working on databases in SQL (PostgreSQL);
  • Contributing to the team's containerisation setup / workflow (Docker, Compose, Kubernetes, ArgoCD, Helm);
  • Gathering and iterating over requirements and features with our users and stakeholders (Power Converter Experts);
  • Providing support to the experts (users);
  • Collaborating closely in a team of developers who are working on the full stack of the tools suite, using the Scrum framework;
  • This role includes team supervision responsibilities.

Your profile

Skills:

  • Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript (Vue.js);
  • Experience with UI/UX design and development;
  • Experience with Python (FastAPI);
  • Experience with SQL;
  • Experience with gathering user requirements;
  • Knowledge of or experience with DevOps (Docker, Compose, Kubernetes) would be an advantage;
  • Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You have a professional background in Computer Science (or a related field) and have either:
  • a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
  • or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
