The Institute for Infectious Diseases (ifik) performs tasks in teaching and research as well as in diagnostic microbiology in the fields of virology, bacteriology, mycology, parasitology and serological infection clarification. It is the only university institute in Switzerland that combines all microbiological specialties in the field of clinical microbiology under one roof.
We look for a Research assistant (m/f/d) for microbiological work. The successful candidate will be part of 2 dynamic research groups at the ifik led by Prof Markus Hilty and Prof Lucy Hathaway: https://www.ifik.unibe.ch/research/research_groups/index_eng.html')
Tasks- Bacterial culturing of S. pneumoniae and cell culture work
- Molecular work (DNA extraction, PCR, etc.)
- Support in supervising students for laboratory work
- Ordering, receipt and tracking of laboratory reagents
- Equipment maintenance and qualification for new equipment
- Maintaining and organising bacterial strain collections
- Completed training as a laboratory technician (Dipl. ’Biomed. AnalytikerIn’) and/or BSc degree in life science or equivalent background in microbiology and molecular biology would be a plus
- Organizational skills
- Technical understanding in handling laboratory equipment
- Excellent English language skills (oral and written).
A fixed-term contract (100%) is available with the possibility to renew. Alternatively 2 positions of 50%.
Start Date and Application Deadline
