Mechanical Equipment Development Engineer (M/F/D) - 80/100%
FenX is looking for a hands-on Mechanical Equipment Development Engineer to develop, test, and industrialise equipment used in the production of mineral foam. Combining mechanical design, equipment development, hands-on testing, and industrial implementation, the role spans the full development cycle from concept to industrial transfer.
You will take ownership of internal equipment development projects, from concept and feasibility assessment through mechanical design, prototyping, construction, testing, and commissioning. Working closely with machinery suppliers, engineering partners, and customers, you will help transfer validated concepts into industrial production environments and support their implementation.
The role is based in Turgi (Baden) - Zürich Metropolitan Area and includes approximately 30% regular travel to machinery suppliers, engineering partners, and customer sites for testing, commissioning, technical alignment, troubleshooting, and industrial validation.
Tasks- Lead equipment development projects from concept and feasibility through commissioning at FenX and industrial transfer
- Prepare functional specifications and technical requirements for process equipment and machinery
- Create CAD models, technical drawings, prototypes, and experimental test setups
- Support installation, commissioning (Inbetriebnahme), validation, and optimisation of equipment at customer site
- Collaborate with external engineering and machinery partners to transfer validated concepts into industrial solutions
- Build and maintain engineering documentation and know-how to support technology scale-up and industrialization
- Degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, product development, process engineering, or a related technical discipline
- 3-5 years relevant experience in equipment development, machine design, process equipment, industrial machinery, special-purpose machinery (Sondermaschinenbau), prototyping, pilot plants, or related industrial engineering environments
- Strong mechanical design and CAD skills, combined with hands-on experience building, modifying, testing, and commissioning equipment and prepare related structured documentation
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and with external partners, effectively balancing in-house development with external engineering support.
- Good understanding of sensors, actuators, controls, instrumentation, and data acquisition
- Hands-on, resourceful, and self-starting, with a strong builder mindset and a drive to turn ideas into robust industrial solutions.
- Excited to travel; fluent in English and good working proficiency in German
