Introduction

The University of Lausanne (UNIL) is a leading public institution of higher education and research in Switzerland. It is composed of seven faculties for a total of approximately 17’000 students and employs around 5’000 researchers, teachers and technical staff.
Life sciences and medicine is one of its three main axis of research, together with social and environmental sciences. The hosting laboratory is part of the Department of Biomedical Sciences (DBS) within the Faculty of Biology and Medicine (FBM) at UNIL.

It benefits from close proximity to the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV), consistently ranked among the world’s top 10 academic medical centers, fostering a rich and collaborative biomedical research environment.

Presentation

A Postdoctoral Researcher position is available in the laboratory of Prof. Yibo Wu at the Department of Biomedical Sciences (DBS), Faculty of Biology and Medicine (FBM), University of Lausanne (UNIL). Our research focuses on elucidating the molecular mechanisms of adipose tissue inflammation and its crucial role in obesity and metabolic complications.

We employ systems biology approaches, integrating advanced proteomics, bioinformatics, and multi-omics analysis to uncover fundamental mechanisms that govern human metabolic health. We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Researcher with expertise in proteomics data analysis and bioinformatics to lead innovative, interdisciplinary projects in a rapidly evolving and clinically relevant field.

Job information

Expected start date: 01.10.2025 or upon agreement
Contract duration: 1 year contract with possibility of renewal
Percentage of activity: 100%

Location: Lausanne, UNIL-DSB - Bugnon

Your responsibilities

The Postdoctoral Researcher will:

  • Lead the computational and statistical analysis of complex proteomic datasets (DDA, DIA, label-free, TMT) derived from mouse models and human clinical cohorts.
  • Develop and optimize robust bioinformatics pipelines for data quality control, normalization, missing value imputation, and differential protein expression analysis.
  • Perform advanced biological interpretation, including but not limited to gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA), pathway analysis (e.g., KEGG, Reactome, GO, Ingenuity Pathway Analysis), and protein-protein interaction network analysis relevant to metabolism and inflammation.
  • Contribute to the design of omics experiments, working closely with the wet lab team and core facility to ensure optimal study design and data acquisition strategies.
  • Integrate proteomic data with other omics datasets (e.g., genetics, transcriptomics, metabolomics) for a systems-level understanding of human metabolic diseases.
  • Play a key role in preparation of manuscripts, grant applications, and presentation of research findings at conferences.
  • Participate in the training and mentoring of graduate students.

Your qualifications

Required:

  • Ph.D. in computational proteomics, bioinformatics, systems biology, biochemistry, or related field with a strong focus on mass spectrometry-based proteomics data analysis.
  • Proficiency in R and/or Python for statistical analysis, data manipulation, and visualization.
  • Extensive experience with common proteomics software (e.g., Proteome Discoverer, Spectronaut, MaxQuant, FragPipe, Perseus) and bioinformatics tools for pathway/network analysis.
  • Solid understanding of statistical methods for large-scale omics datasets.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently on complex computational projects.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with metabolism, obesity, and metabolic diseases
  • Experience with clinical data and multi-omics data integration (e.g., transcriptomics, metabolomics)
  • Experience with single-cell omics (e.g. scRNA-seq)
